Love it! Hate it! Van Driver Contest!
We wanted to know what you think… so we held a contest to write a review of Van Driver on the New York Times website! Love us or hate us, we didn't care, but the best written review of Van Driver at the Cherry Lane Theater's Cherry Pit Late Nite series, won a $25 American Express Gift Card!
Congratulations Jason Grossman!
The Operating Theater provides audiences with unusual,
original, innovative, thought provoking performance, creating art that
can only be fully experienced in a live forum. We experiment with perception
and explore the visceral subjectivity of the human experience. We create
high quality productions of lasting value.
In conjunction with Doctored Pictures,
The Operating Theater channels original work from the stage to other
media, and investigates ways in which the two meet utilizing experimentaion,
multi-media, new technology, or combined art forms.
Recent productions by the Operating Theater include:
Take a magic carpet ride with Van Driver! Wordsmith, World-explorer, Mind-tripper and Revolutionary. Waldo "Van" Driver and friends thrill audiences their multimedia circus of the wild, weird and wonderful. Regarded by some as a prophet and others as a madman, Van's often outlandish, but eerily insightful world view is undeniably life-altering!
An
eminent interior designer, in love with her crystalline art collection,
is driven to eat glass. The play dissects the marriage of art and commerce,
inviting the viewer to experience first hand the fine line between patron
and voyeur.
Fact is stranger than fiction when you are playing the world's only meta-physical gameshow. Co-hosts Powers and Victoria McKinley dare audience members to ask questions of themselves not only to win prizes of cash and material value, but of experiential ecstasy and existential understanding!
a BBC-style live/multimedia sitcom performed live on stage as an episodic adventure. This objet de televised art is as glorious and sinister as the medium of TV itself. It was awarded an encore production as part of the Best of the Moral Values Festival at the Brick Theater.
A dance/theater comedy about
the dark side of Real Estate Development. Mountain View Estates exposes the extraordinary fantasies that inhabit ordinary lives as a seven-man crew construct the “model home” live on stage.
